AbstractThe World Food Programme is the world's largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide. In emergencies, WFP gets food assistance to where it is needed, saving the lives of victims of war, civil conflict and natural disasters. After the cause of an emergency has passed, WFP uses food assistance to help communities rebuild their shattered lives. WFP is part of the United Nations system and is voluntarily funded. Mr Adrian van der Knaap will focus his lecture on unsolicited in-kind services and consolidation of logistics services in the humanitarian sector. |
BiographyAdrian van der Knaap is currently Chief Transport and Logistics Services of the Logistics Division for World Food Programme (WFP). Previous positions in WFP include Head of Logistics in Democratic Republic of Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Angola and Sudan as well as Head of the Sub-Office in Gulu/Uganda and Juba/Sudan. From 2002 to 2006, he led the United Nations Joint Logistics Centre in Rome (the predecessor of the Logistics Cluster) with stints in Afghanistan and Iraq. In addition to WFP, Adrian has worked as a Logistics Officer for MSF-Holland (Khartoum) and for Norwegian People’s Aid (South Sudan) as well as a Civil-Military Liaison Officer for UNHCR (Zaire) and for FAO’s Emergency Division (seconded by WFP). Prior to joining the humanitarian sector, he worked in the banking sector and selection & recruitment business. More about Adrian van der Knaap |
