Abstract

The topic of development aid is controversial. Some consider official development aid ineffective and more likely to foster dependency than alleviate poverty. Yet others make the case that development cooperation, if done effectively, can help accelerate growth among the world’s poorest nations. 

The panel discussion will help us …

• gain a better understanding of development cooperation,
• recognize key factors and methods that increase efficiency and sustained impact of projects when implemented in developing countries,
• understand emerging sectors and areas of challenge in the global development consulting market, and  
• learn how GFA deals with emerging and critical trends in development aid.

GFA is one of the leading European consulting firms that helps stakeholders in government, the private sector, NGOs and citizens’ groups successfully manage development aid projects.  In our RILOHA panel, we would like to discuss critical issues and lessons learned in development cooperation with two GFA experts:  

• Jan Prothmann, portfolio manager in area of governance at GFA Consulting Group
• Svenja Siemonsen, project manager in area of urban governance, development, mobility at GFA Consulting Group

Prior to the panel discussion, our panelists will briefly provide us with background information about GFA and their activities. After that, we will proceed to the panel talk discussing the abovementioned topics as well as participants' emerging questions. The event will be held in English. A small reception will be offered after the panel.
